Muscatine

Does it seem to you all that the city did a poor job taking care of the last 2 snowfalls? I know it was a lot of snow and it was the holidays but the snow that was left downtown was just too much. The rest of the streets were not much better IMHO.
Guess it is a budget thing yet again.

and by the sounds of things it's going to get worse. I heard on the morning radio that Iowa was having trouble getting salt into the state forcing a shortage. Iowa has stated they'll stop selling salt to smaller towns.

I live downtown and one of the reasons there is still snow downtown is people didnot move cars out of the way so a good job could be done. The city should do something about this. But towing should be the last thing we should do. Maybe a large fine. I always move my car off the street, to one of the city lots.

Snow Removal

I am a retired City worker of 30 years. Have NOT been, nor are, a City Official, but, wanted to set you straight on your thinking process. For the past Several years, the City of Muscatine has contracted out downtown snow removal to Sulzberger (sp?) contractors. I see no reason for it to be any different this year. I personally believe that the City of Muscatine does an EXCELLENT job of snow removal, on a timely manner, IF you want to find out about how and why snow removal is done the way it is, please contact your council person, and/or Randy Hill @ Public Works. They'll be GLAD to fill you in. Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
