handouts

I use to work many years ago at Hardees as a dining room server. A minimum wage job, but I got by. There was one table that was constantly used by this one lady. I poured her free coffee all day. She was always talking to different people that spoke poor English. But I payed little attention to what they talked about for the most part except once. I was scrubbing the catsup and mustard mess that some teenagers made when a young man slid into her booth and said ''School almost out, must get job for summer. So can complete school in fall.'' She got real excited and said '' No no don't get a job. I can get you food stamps and rental assistance for the summer. You don't' have to work. I can get funding for car payments, utilities and some cash. He was obviously a foreign student, from his pour English. So just who is paying for this funding, I was curious! She left in a state of Iowa car. I left the parking lot right behind her. She turned into the DHS parking lot. I realise this isn't an Illegal alien. But foreigners do get a lot more ''Help'' than most of us know. I would be really curious what a years total would be for supporting any type of foreigner. Especially if it gives them any incentive for NOT working.

Time to Put our Foot DOWN!

You bring our ancestors into this equation. It's SO different today.
If my Irish grandmother would have come to this country, (almost 9 months pregnant), and delivered on our soil, her child would not have immediately been given the status and benefits given to those born of ''illegals'' today.
My ancestor did not have the privelge of allowing her children to be in an ''ESL'' class, in a school with a free education, free lunches, etc. MY ancestor did NOT receive free health care, etc.
Because our ancestors were not offered all these ''freebies'', they learned to work for what they needed. They were proud of their achievements and passed that to all of us. They showed us that if we work hard to achieve & appreciate this beautiful country, we can be anything we want to be!
BECAUSE they weren't given handouts, they were driven to achieve! THAT is the answer! Human nature dictates that for many of us! ''Feed a man for a day...teach him to fish...'' That is what our country is founded on.

Tomatoes

I have picked many tomatoes, but before they are pioked they had to be planted in May. I rode the planters planting them starting around 10 years old.
Then came the walking along to replant the ones that were missed or died.
The hoeing was next as there was not good weed control back then.
Hopefully we would be paid $ 4.00 a day for a 10 hour day.
In late July came the picking at 10 cents a basket loaded on the truck.
When school started we worked 4 hours each evening plus week ends.
What I am saying, pay a fair wage and let the demand set the price. This was over 50 years ago.
These are perishable products that have to be sold and if you do not pay the price it will come down, because they are not going to throw them away and take a loss.
As long as you pay the price it will only go up and the retailer fills his pockets at your expense.
