Unity

I went to my Doctor at Unity for my yearly phyiscal in December 2004.
I told her of a pain in my rib I was having and she ordered a x-ray that was taken right away.
The next day her office called and had me return for another x-ray and blood tests.
five days later my doctor in person called me and said the blood test came back positive for Multipole Myeloma ( bone marrow cancer.)
They had me lined up for the next day in Bettendorf at the cancer center and you know the rest of the story.
Oh yes my doctor moved to the medical center and so did I.
I have been treated twice since then in the Unity emergency room with good results because the Cancer medicine stops the bowels from working.
Yes I was full of it.
Both of my trips to the emergency room were treated very quickly with good results.
Yes I left a large deposit each time and left feeling much better.

Can't say-

much good or bad, about unity these days. All I know is, in '94 I was in pain while walking. I went to Dr. Catalona. He took X-rays and sent me directly to Iowa City. Got a new hip and been fine since.

I have to go awlong with the

teacher on this one. Unity is not the same kind of hospital as UIHC and never will be. It is a community hospital that serves in its role very well. I recall amny years ago when we first moved here a co-worker told me never to go to MGH as people died there.I asked her what she was talking about. She stated her aunt had passed away there several years prior. It came out in the conversation that her 84 year old aunt had died there and it was a terrible hospital because her aunt died there. She went on to say that her aunt had smoked 2 packs a day and was 80 lbs overweight and MGH had killed her. I have heard several similar stories of MGH/Unity and all I can say is I have been hospitalized there 4 times and cant complain. Many folks expect miricales from doctors and hospitals and then bad mouth them when they dont get them.

I have to say

that I am glad that some people found good treatment, but in my experiences and those of good friends it has been a place that i would fear taking my dog for care..Not every hospital is perfect, they make mistakes. Thats why they carry malpractice insurance, just ''in case''. But lets get real, to diagnose Brain cancer as sinus infection, breast cancer as a rash, a inguinal hernia as a need to poop, treating a bee sting in an allergic patient with the wong meds and sending them into cardiac failure, its all just too much to ever consider going there for a serious problem. The commercial should say, '' Top 100 to go to if you have a splinter and can remove it yourself in the waiting room because if we see it we might remove your arm. '' As for seeing the doctor for only one problem at a time thats because they can only handle one at a time.
