first off

we have chopped up our education system with all the cuts and closings. cut music, cut drama, cut art, cut this and cut that. I say we need to bring back all the cut programs, more teachers, stronger subjects, more technology. stop fighting wars overseas and focus on our own problems. true about parents teaching kids. but, then there are the parents that work multiple jobs, single parents, drug addicts and alcoholics, serving our country and lots of other reasons these kids are not being taught. so we can keep turning out these broken children or change things. wait lets just debate which party did what, lets not see what is really going on. everything is broke and if we keep throwing a sheet over it, it will collapse. the fact is you can blame it on whatever you want, but these kids grow up to be killers, rapist, pedophiles and just plain criminals. if you want things to change, you first have to do something different. you can debate who did or didn't do their job, but there is still nothing getting done. republicans did it, the democrats did it, the conservatives did it, it was the liberals. face it we all have allowed this behavior to continue. only we the people have the power.

gun free zone sign?

That would be like the Nuclear Free Zone signs going into Iowa City on Highway 6. Get real.

Cuts

I'm curious as to the cuts you mentioned. Specifically, what art, music, or drama programs or ''this and that'' programs have been cut?

And the fact remains that as long as NCLB is intact, the emphasis will remain on math and reading....nothing more. Check out how teachers are being asked to spend all of their inservice and training time.

School shootings are rare..

That's why they make national headlines. The real problem is teen auto crash deaths and injuries, not shootings. Shootings are insignificant compared to teen auto deaths.
The number one cause of death among teenagers is car accidents according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Aren't there laws against speeding, reckless driving, teenage drinking, etc.? Why aren't those laws preventing teen auto deaths?

Will more laws against guns prevent the rare teen gun death?
