Big Box not all bad

I will probably get alot of nasty replys for this, but I bet, if everyone was honest, they would agree.

I do not shop downtown. I bet I haven't been down there in 10 years, except passing through. The reason....tight budget, plain and simple. I do not like to see these businesses go out anymore than anyone else. But on a tight budget, with 3 kids, I have to save what I can. If I can go to WalMart and buy my son a new shirt for $6 that last as long as one downtown that costs $15, Im going to WalMart. I realise that small businesses can not compete with big box stores, and that is a sad truth, but I have to think of my family when it comes to money spending.

I will be the first to admit that WalMart more than lacks on the service part, but when I am in the market for school clothes or the odd and end hardware item that doesn't require service, I will be the first one to WalMart. I will also admit that some of WalMarts item lack in the quality aspect, but you get what you pay for. So if I get an unbelievable deal and it falls apart in a week, who's to blame...ME!

I know Muscatine needs it small businesses to stay. My stepfather owns a very profitable business that I work at, here in town. Don;t get me wrong, I dont enjoy seeing small businesses go out here in town, it is a bad thing, but big box is here to stay, and theres nothing we can do about it.

I would bet that if the big box retailers that are in town right now, were not here, the discussion on here right now would be everyone complaing that the Chamber is not allowing any in town and you have to shop Davenport.

To big box retail haters... ask your self this...

Where would you shop for Christmas if WalMart, Blanies, or Orshelins (pardon my spelling of it) wasn't here?

Where would you get groceries if WalMart, Hyvee, and Fareway wasn't here?

Where would you get your soaps, shampoos, and toiletries?

Where are you going to get your kids school supplies without being charged an arm and a leg?

Just face it, without them, you'd be shopping Davenport or Coral Ridge Mall.

wondering...

that Hubble's by name, not ownership, may be the last of the old timers on Second St.? That establishment is one of kind...at least 25 years ago. Comments, please. Clyde, his wife, and I think, brother-in-law. Always a nice friendly place to have a draw of Drewry's, ugh, on my lunch break when I worked Stanley's. I heard it's still a nice place to have one.....

Here's Why

You need a K&D! Two months ago my wife's 102 year old grandmother passed. My 13 year old son needed a suit. It was on short notice when we walked into K&D and told them of our dilema. In less than thirty minutes, they had him fitted with alterations to be completed the next day! When I came in to pick it up, it was ready as promised. I bought two shirts and a tie for myself. I wonder what I would have done without K&D. Where else could we have gotten that kind of service, in town or out? There will now be nowhere in Muscatine where a man can buy a decent suit of clothes! Where will our students buy their high school letter jackets? This is a real loss for our community.
