I think

that the young no longer feel it's a system that no longer works for them. Right or wrong that's the feeling I recieve when I ask why didn't you vote and they reply ''vote for who''.

Not to upset anyone, I hope things change.

Peace

low turnout is ok

someone may have the real answer. i'm just making an (educated) guess.

turnout is 10% of eligible voters in local only elections. it always was, always is, and always should be. i don't have a complaint about it either. the people motivated to vote make the decision, and that's good enough for me.

i admit i have a politically incorrect view of this, so any critics can KMA in advance. the flaw of democracy - and it could someday prove to be a fatal flaw - is that everyone potentially can vote. i'm with alexander hamilton on this. not everyone should vote. as a practical matter they don't. so far so good.

the problem is in national elections where 50%-60% of eligible voters actually vote. that too high of a %. it has resulted in a welfare state mentality of give it to me for free.

well it isn't free. by 2050, the coming social security, medicare, and medicaid fiscal crisis is going to bankrupt our formerly wonderful revolutionary experiment in freedom.

our children and grandchildren will be left with the wreckage. they will curse us for our selfish and short-sighted behavior.

they did change-

chosen. They changed from higher turnouts to lower turnouts. Now, when they finally change to higher turnouts, as you seem to want, you'll stand in line too long to vote and bitch for change again. Go change your depends and quitcherbitchin.

Mail Voting

I heard on the radio the other day that the Gov. of Iowa was discussing the implementation of a vote by mail system to help increase voting in local elections. I don't know how well that would work to increase voter participation.

I personally think that if they made it so you could vote via the web through secure sights, they may get a increase in voter participation. I don't know what all the pro's & con's would be, but I think if it could be done and it would be a viable option.

Just my opinion.
