Shameful

Posted in: Muscatine
I don't care if you're a Democrat or Republican, this is just shameful.
The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.

To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.

Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.
This is old news

It's been going on for awhile now.

It is an outrage. But nobody seems to care. We're all really just numbers and once our number is no longer useful we're discarded and forgotten. Maybe in 10 or 20 years we'll put a couple hundred grand into a wall...

Ya, some things make me bitter.

Don't see

Don't see a list of ''thousands'' here. I see ''one'' person named in this example.
Got any proof there are thousands, haysus? Where are their names, if the news article can name one?

One reporter with one article about one soldier's case just don't get it...but it sells stories, no?

Just like the vet in Iowa City that was found dead of exposure under a bridge this week. He was arrested and taken everywhere by cops but was refused treatment and then released, so the article says.

The article title stated ''Homeless veteran refused help before death''.

It implies the agencies refused him...but he actually refused all assistance. There are two ways to read everything. Just like your article, haysus. Did one fall through the cracks; or are there really thousands? Well then, where are ''their'' names?

Easy to allege. Harder to prove.
Typical

conservative M.O. - Shoot the messenger.

Disregard the fact that a soldier is being asked to repay part of his signing bonus after he has lost the vision in one eye due to an injury suffered while serving his country and just focus on the fact that the article only spoke of one person. I guess if it only happens to one person then it's not so shameful. Right bigbrother? I guess that in order to live up to your high journalistic standards they should have listed the names of every single person that's being effected. Right bigbrother? (Of course those of us who have been around awhile know all about your high journalistic standards. Right bigplagiarizer, I mean, bigbrother.)

Look, the bottom line is, this soldier served his country, was injured in the line of duty, and is now being asked to repay part of his signing bonus because he couldn't complete his commitment. Maybe you think that's okay. Maybe you don't see anything wrong with it because he ''fell through the cracks.'' Either way, I think it's shameful. But you go right ahead and pretend there's nothing wrong with it, bigbrother. Show us that ''compassionate conservatism'' that we've all heard so much about over the years.
