guns in homes

I have never touched a gun. When the gun debate comes up, one memory comes to mind for me. My husband used to work the overnight shift. Our two young daughters slept in the room right next to us in a 2 story home.
''This happened before cordless & cell phones''. I woke up to strange noises downstairs & assumed it was nothing. I then heard the unmistakeable creaking of our stairs. Someone was in our home! The only ''weapon'' I could find was a brush. Terrified, I waited for the intruder, counted the stairs & creaks. As the ''intruder'' got to the top of the stairs I began my attack to protect my daughters! Much to my suprise, it was my 6 yr. old daughter, sleepwalking. Thank God I was able to throw that brush down, hug her & tuck her into bed. If I would have had a gun in my hand, what could have happened? Maybe nothing, maybe something. I felt brave w/ a brush in my hands!
I could care less what my rights should be about guns. It doesn't matter how well trained we are in the use of a lethal weapon. Human Nature is what it is. Scared is scared. I had every intention of doing harm as I swung that brush @ the intruder/my daughter, but FOUND the gift to aim it somewhere else! Once a bullet is sent; we can't take it back. I had the gift of seeing my daughter grow up & am watching her own daughter grow up. That is confirmation enough for me. I choose to not allow guns in my home, for any reason.
