YI believe you would be correct --
I do own stock in AT&T wireless, the argument that the economy sucks just doesn't work. I've made more on dividends in the last 5 years than antime prior since I purchased back in 1999.
As far as I'm concerned, the Stock Market is the pulse of what the state of the economy's health.
The other topic I hear is that people are having to declare bankrupt due to all the outstanding debts they have. Once again, I don't buy it. It comes down to personal responsibility. Don't live outside your means.
The forclosure stuff is the same way. Folks getting talked into sales when they really cannot afford it.
I'd like to see a breakdown of how many of those loans were new in the past 10 years, how many are ARM's, how many were just too expensive to begin with, and how many were due to unforseen situations (death, health, change in job, etc). Break those numbers down and they would have a different story to tell. Lump them all together and yes, it would appear that the housing sector is in the pits.
