been lurking here for quite a while & this seem to be a topic I can easily chime in on.
Here's the #1 thing that gets me: The company that owns the muscatine stations, plus many other stations in iowa, illinois, & wisconsin PREACHES local radio. local. local. local. local....How is canning a full-tme jock, taking over two FM stations, and playing nothing but music, commercials, & liners recorded by a guy in florida LOCAL??!!
The company continues to use automation, satellite programs, and cut staff as much as possible because the stations aren't making enough money....hmmmm....how could that be?? I understand that all industries change, and technology is killing radio. But this company, these stations, the bone-headed CEO in charge of all of this, refuses to acknowledge that what he's doing is not working.
Seemingly no one under the age of 35 listens to the radio anymore unless it is their only choice (ie work, etc.) But instead of utilizing technology & trying to find new ways to attract new listeners, they try their hardest to maintain the status quo. Then they wonder why they have trouble doing that, when they have to continuously cut costs....downward sprial...
so that's my soapbox...
by the way...do you think if someone came in and built another radio station in muscatine, ANYONE would listen to "MaC" anymore???
