Unfortunately lionjack, the gravel pits fall under federal mining act laws. At least that was what I was told by an owner of one. There are some pretty strict laws on the use of that type of land according to him, which includes no general public access. I to wish they could open them up for recreational use, not only fishing  or swimming, but they are a great place to ride atvs also.

It's been very interesting reading these posts, most of them are from an era before I was born, but some have been about things I do remember. Bigbrother is right about the quonset hut/Yamaha dealer, it was next door to the station, spent a few dollars in there talking to old Willie, I believe his name was. He used to ride around town once in a while with his little dog riding on the gas tank if I remember correctly.

Where that P&P building is, was always a service station prior to P&P. The Yamaha quonset hut was just north of that station. Chuck Eckhardt was the last station owner. Chuck turned it into a convenience store and eventually sold out to P&P. There were also two small houses north of the Yamaha shop before the Tastee-Freeze ice cream shop parking lot. Girl that lived in one of them worked at the Tastee-Freeze next door. Took her out once in high school. Once!

I remember the Yamaha shop, used to go there alot when i was a young lad. The old tastee freeze eventually became a hawkeye shop for a short time...before Willie and Dave sold the buildings and land to hardees. Its been so long that i forgot about the houses there too....

The old Curtis auto sales lot (now A-1 car lot) there was an old green house that we lived in ...after we moved out he tore the house down to extend his lot out..........at the edge of the car lot after the house was tore down...sits a shingle sided building that used to be a bar.........its been so long i had forgotten about Mr. Quicks.

The intersection of mulberry and second..going towards the bridge, right hand side used to be a mall of sorts....there was a maytag dealer, and the golden spike bar? i think thats what the name was........

I wished they hadnt turned the old boston cinema (downtown theater) into a parking lot.....

Remember the old spurgeons store, i believe there was a dentist upstairs....the old jupiter store right next door............

Anyone remember the replica Dutch windmill at Weed park? And those round black kerosene burning flares they used with sawhorses, to close off streets with for sledding?
