Childhood Memories

Posted in: Muscatine

Check this out. When I went to Madison school, the principal (Mr.Leibhart) had a "ski and skate" that he would beat your a$$ with if you got into trouble. I remember watching a boy get his butt beat with a ski and skate, in front of the whole class by Mr. Axel. And the 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Smith, would use a ruler on your hand. Man she scared me to death.

I remember Sambo's. Yummy breakfasts. Jupiter....I always liked the smell of that store and the old wood floors. Too bad my mom baught me clothes there.Frown

Remember the store on Park Ave. called the Icehouse?

I remember the Golden Spike. I never went there. I always had fun at the Union hall, Smiley's, Edwards, Harry's and Lucky's. Chet's always had the nastiest strippers. LOL!

Did any of you ever frequent Freeze's Inn (Herb Freeze's place) on Hershey near Roman & Libbys?  Wasn't his wife's name "Francis"??   She made some pretty good sandwhiches.   I remember he had a sign that said "Get your heart into the Cubs, or get your A.. out"!  A lot of teachers from L&M wouuld hit that place on Friday evenings to celebrate the end of the week.    Herb could be grouchy, but I also saw him give free stuff to kids.   But, on the other hand, if he didn't like you, you knew it.  He always liked me, until I got married and he found out my wife was a pop drinker.

Was Earnie's on Clinton street?
