does anyone remember( I think it was )mr willy the principle at jefferson he used to plunk you in the head with his fingers if you were bad.

This has been a GREAT thread!  Thanks for all the priceless info on Muscatine.  (It's been fun to see people who often disagree everywhere else share memories of our beloved hometown)  I remember the Rock a Bye on Park and Washington run by some really nice older folks where you could get a beer and the best tenderloin anywhere.

That was Elisabeth Avesing that owned and ran the Rock A Bye.  A gentlemanly guy named Clyde helped her out and tended bar.  She employed other people also in the kitchen.  What a wonderful place it was!  Clean and bright.  They weren't ashamed to keep the lights turned up!  The best ground pork sandwiches in the world.  I believe her husband passed away before I started going in there in the 60's.

Oak Street & Woodlawn Market

Monroe Street Tap. Good for a cold one after work on the way home

Schmeltzer's (?) on Nineth Street where the plumbing shop is now

Richard's Meat packing along Mad Creek near where Keller and Keller is

Ryan's Hardware on Mulberry Ave

Kolpack's on Mulberry Ave

The Elk's building on the corner of Mississippi Dr/Mulberry Ave

Ice cream shop where Community Bank was/DeKock law office now  Mulberry/Third (Mittman's ?)

Ice cream shop where Musco is now. A police officer owned it I believe Grady (?) was his name. Dairy Freeze (?)

Ice cream shop across Strewart road, near the reserve building

Wonder bread store on third street with the bowling alley up stairs

Iowa Field

US Bakery on Second Street

Both Y's downtown

Gold Bond stamp stores at and Cedar/3rd and then in the Batterson Blg

Dr Catalona on 3rd street

Riding the elevators in the J C Penny Building

Glass Fashion, Barton's

The old Hubbles. Every thing from fishing gear to a cold beer and every thing in between. Clyde (?)
