Yeah, mom said she was a good dancer and they use to back up and watch her dance. Maybe you did dance with her.

I remember that. My Pa use to stop and lets us drink out of it! I took my boys there too, when they were younger. I remember the pigs that were all around when you got a drink. Down Hershey Ave. out of town, past the Bandag plant, there was a spring on the bluff side of the road. A pipe was run under the road and the water ran into a stock tank beside a barn. People used to stop there to drink and fill water jugs to take home. They tested the water often. After it became polluted they closed it.

I do remember fishing in the slough. We used to ride our bikes out to Lowe Run (way out Lucas)to play in the crick. Those streams were always "cricks" to us ("creeks" was a sissy word). By the way do you know that Lucas St. was called Lucas Grove Rd. out past where Houser intersects now? Or maybe it was before that intersection?
The family folklore always related that Indians helped build that stone house. Can't verify any of that. Ever see my dad and his brothers logging out there and sawing timber just into the drive along the creek bank? I loved the smell of the wood they sawed. Grandpa farmed that area and was a full time grave digger (by hand) at Greenwood Cemetary. Walked with a bad limp. Chewed Plug and Red Man combined....oh my God! |
