My two cents worth. It's very difficult to unseat a president, so the closeness of the race was in some way a positive. The governorships and retention of congressional numbers prevented this from being a Democratic version of the 2010 "shellacking". However, when a guy like Obama who has been so incredibly poor at his job can't be beaten, it leads us to believe that perhaps race and entitlements are playing more into the picture than we had suspected they ever might in the "home of the brave". Romney was not a strong candidate, and the question now becomes do Republicans move to a stronger conservative stance, or do they throw their principles into the wind and move to the middle? I hope for the first.
The stock market in the past few days is a pretty good indicator of the lack of confidence the marketplace has for the next four years. Compromise cannot just be what it has always been....Democrats just insisting that Republicans move to their position. If that doesn't happen, if Obama feels like he's being given another free pass to accomplish nothing and spend us into oblivion, then I truly worry about the future of this country.
