Mal, although a lot of county jails are run by Sheriffs (all in Iowa) not everyone that works for them are Deputies. A secretary is still a secretary, a jailer is still a jailer. The position of Deputy Sheriff is a quite specific title, if you would like to check the Iowa Code you can see that. Some counties do have Deputies that work in the jail, but not in Muscatine.

Jailers are not deputies. Deputies are sworn civil service officers certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as peace officers. Deputies don't change a prisoner's clothes. |
