He's Our Friend
I did not say that Dave was my friend; I said that he is our friend. And that he is. He's run into a rough patch in his life. Let's try to help him, and his family, over it, rather than trying to tear him down. He did the same for us back when our hopes for reclaiming this community looked like fantasies. By Dusty |

At what cost?
Speak for yourself and not for me 'Dusty'. At what cost do we continue to support the mayor? At any as Heidi seems to indicate in the paper? What about the mental anguish and stress imposed upon the city employees? Who's going to stick up for them during this 'bad patch'? Should he just be able to dictate who gets fired because he suspects them of something but can't prove? These are peoples jobs and source of income and health insurance and you have the gall to just write them off because David is having a bad time in his life? Having a bad day is one thing - this is not just a bad day. |

Mayor Can't Fire Anyone
Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe the Mayor has the authority to unilaterally fire anyone. The Mayor presides at City Council meetings, oversees the management of the city by the City Manager and her staff, represents the city at various functions, and perhaps makes a few unpaid committee appointments. Informally, the Mayor also provides leadership for the city and the community. I see nothing in the Dispatch article, ''Anonymous,'' to suggest that Dave is either disabled or disqualified from continuing to perform these functions. Is what Dave is experiencing right now really so different from what we all have experienced? Hasn't a hard day, or a series of hard knocks, ever put your nerves on edge, and caused you to blow up at someone when you shouldn't have? Dave's nerves are just a bit closer to the edge, and hard knocks hit him a bit harder. He has done nothing to forfeit my trust, and I'm grateful for all that he has done for this community so far. I still say, at least for now, let's give him a break and see what we can do to help him up. If the time ever does come for him to depart, for his own good as well as ours, let's try to ease him out and not knock him down. Again, I think he's earned that. By Dusty |
