Agreed
Agreed. I guess that is what I was trying to get to before. The need continues to grow with each passing failure. So they barely lost the last requirement for 2 elems. Now they are coming back for what is required today with the addition of the middle school.
My questions are many, but first, is the potential there for us to turn back the clock to the first failure and they have to begin from scratch? I mean are we looking at 4-5 failures of this levy before the gap is closed enough to think there is actually a chance? Then after 4-5 more failures we will need what, 2 more elems and 2 more middles and/or a new junior high or high school? I am on dial-up to save money so I can?’t look at the facilities report.
Although I voted for the levy last time, I still felt berated and browbeat by the schools to pass it. That is not a feeling I react well to. If they take the same approach, even with this new $25.000 taxpayer dollar firm of Burgess and Burgess to pass it, if I feel the same way I did before about the pressure they put on me and the sometimes really inane statements by Mrs. Reade, et al, I may choose to vote against it.
Then there are the operating levies coming. How much this time? They have to renew several current operating levies to keep what we got running. Now there will be an additional requirement for probably 3 more schools. They can?’t run the operating for the new schools until the construction is passed, right? So, in a perfect world, if the construction passes in November, they have to run an operating levy for the new schools as soon as possible under election laws.
I am so close to running at a zero margin with my monthly expenses/income, I am in great fear about election results. I live in a very modest older development, don?’t own a car from this century although I am still making payments on the old bird, have reduced our family vacation to every other year for a three-day weekend within driving distance, resorted to going to Wal-Mart to shop for groceries and clothes much to the dismay of my kids because, YES, they do get belittled for it by other kids, set the thermostat to 78 in the summer and 65 in the winter, patched the roof instead of replacing it (bring us a hailstorm ?–PLEASE), and on and on and on. There are a lot of people like me out there and we have to wonder what will happen if our taxes go way up for the schools. I would like to be able to sell and move somewhere with cheaper taxes but the cost to fix up this place to sell I can?’t afford plus to get cheaper taxes I assume I?’ll have to add at least another hour to my commute every day and add to the child care costs, and on and on and on.
Perfect World Summary:
November, 2006: Construction levy for 3 elems and 1 middle. Cost: $???? Per $200K
November, 2006: Operating levy or renewals Cost: $??????? Per $200K
February-March 2007: Operating levies Cost: $????? Per $200K
Can anyone attempt to fill in the $??????? Blanks?
I reread this and it certainly sounds like I am whining. Sorry. I want what?’s best for my family and my kids?’ education. I support the schools in every way I can and try to vote for levies if I can afford them but I am simply at my wit?’s end. I don?’t know where to turn in the face of rising costs at every turn with no rise in salary and no way out I can see.
