ParentsÂ’ fear stall school drill

No, I am not changing my vote

Come on now. Give me a break. No, I do not support a levy that spreads our facilities thinner and further apart. Lew Stemen has mentioned economies of scale a number of times yet he/they don?’t apply the same ideas to facilities. Enough time has passed that the board needs to revisit expansion of existing schools and construction of only one at the Sycamore Creek site to keep the land donation. I won?’t address all that again as you seem to have read my past postings on that subject.

By my ?“threats?” of No votes it was only an attempt to illustrate the flippant attitude of other voters. I think you need to direct your questions and comments to them. They are the kind of people who are holding this district hostage with overcrowding.

If these people were cornered and told ?“OK, we cancelled the drill. Now will you vote Yes??”, they?’d say ?“Not until you change the school colors to Red, White and Blue?” and the politicians would say ?“OK, we did that. Now will you vote Yes??” and they would reply ?“Not until?…?…?” and so on.

They extorted the district on Wednesday. Those are the kind of people you need to address, not me. They are bullies, not me. I am a pragmatist who spent enough years close to the facility trade that I can see the decision to continue to add buildings rather than classrooms is futile. The board refuses to look at other options other than those given by consultants who have a vested financial interest in the construction of more and more buildings.

Did you see this in the Times-Sun?

The Top 5 contributors to the campaign were Donley Homes Inc., $4,000; Petermann LLC, $2,500; Pickerington Education Association, $2,500; M/I Homes Service Corp., $1,250 and Dominion Homes, $1,250.

Tell me that the tail ain?’t still waggin?’ the dog in this community.

Beltway tells the story

I've got to jump in & disagree with your theory that we only need one school. Look at districts with > 10,000 kids around the beltway & compare # of buildings:

Olentangy - 10,792 students 11 elementary buildings & building two more 3 middle schools & building 1 more

Dublin - 13,403 students 12 elementary schools 4 middle schools

Westerville - 14,200 students 16 elementary schools 4 middle schools

**Students based on 2005/2006

Pickerington - 10,018 students 5 elementary schools 2 middle schools

** Students based on October 2006 count reported in local papers

We are behind in buildings & it's not going to improve. The community knows this, I hope they step forward to fix this on Tuesday.

Reconfiguring buildings doesn't fix it. Look at it in a basic butts in seats mentality. If you make Pickerington, Violet, Tussing, Heritage, Fairfield, Diley & Harmon all K-6 - you gain absolutely no room. You still have the same number of butts in seats in portables but have created great churn (to what benefit?) in every building. You still have the same number of kids in portables in every building because that's where the seats are & have gained nothing except to spread fabulous middle school libraries over 7 buildings when they could have been in two. Do we just carry less titles in all 7 schools? Is that better? Do we invest in more books so the libraries are equal to what they are today? What about science equipment? Playgrounds? All additional expenses without gaining seats.
Amazing news

It's amazing how we can compare ourselves to other Central Ohio districts when it suits us but claim to stand alone when that suits.

I agree with Central Dad on this one. I for one would like to see three things:

Options of capacities with expansions and one new elementary.

Number of students in the schools you cite as well as geographic distribution in their district.

Stop designing schools for specifically one grade configuration and build in more flexibility to react to changing numbers of students in different grade levels.
