To Powder Puff

Powder Puff,

It's pretty clear you were somehow involved in the bond issue campaign. Perhaps you led it?

I wouldn't get too cocky if I were you. Yes, the bond issue passed with 55% of the voters approving it. That's a solid majority, not a landslide. It also took 5 tries at the ballot before a bond issue was passed.

If the voters in the area feel they are being taken advantage of, or are being used to fuel egos, the much-needed upcoming operating levies will fail.

Prognosticator made some excellent points in his or her posting. Don't betray the trust of the public.

Tone down the rhetoric, please, for the sake of the kids.
I agree

I agree that Prognosticator made some good points in his/her email. I agree that we need to get more people involved. Some type of group led by community members is needed and I think would be welcomed. I don't think that the Board or adminisration is looking to do anything other then run a good school district with the funds they have to work with. The more people that get involved from the community the better off we will be when trying to pass the upcoming levies. I am not sure how to create this group but as a parent concerned about the school district I say ''lets do it''.

Where are we going to build?

I have heard some rumors the last month or so that there may be some changes in where and how the new and most recently approved buildings will be built. Since Powder Puff claims to know it all. I would like to know the locations the current school board plans to build the new elementary schools? Will these new schools meet the OSFC guidelines? If not how much will be local funding initiatives? I have seen a sign erected at the Sycamore Creek location and another sign at the corner of Tollgate and Refugee announcing that these news schools are coming.

I fully understand the logic for putting a new elementary school at the property donated to the school district by the builder at Sycamore Creek. It is not on a high speed road which is also a major collector road in the community. However I have also heard there is some question that the PLSD will build here because of the slope of the lot.

In selling the school bond levy we have been told for a number of years now that all of the growth is in the City. We heard that Pickerington Elementary was over crowed and Heritage was near capacity. So here again there is good logic to place a new school at the Sycamore Creek site. I am very confused of why we would place a new Elementary school on road that has a 45 MPH speed limit and it seems to be away for the growth in the district. One of the concerns expressed about the Wal-Mart across from the North High School was the trucks running so close to the students walking along Refugee Road. Why would we place the younger kids in the same situation? The second issue is for years when the citizens won't pass an operating levy the board starts with the threats of cutting bussing. The site at the NW corner of Tollgate and Refugee has no sidewalks only a few homes within walking distance. You have around 400 homes in Huntington Hills and Refugee has no sidewalks to the North High and Lakeview schools.

So will the tactic be in the future to get the voters to pass operating levies to threaten no bussing and that because of a lack of sidewalks creates the inconvenience to the parents and it makes them more likely to vote for the levy?

The second question is related to growth. Could someone give us an inventory of approved lots in the school district. I know the developer won the case in Liberty Township. I also am aware of the 100 acre farm being platted for more homes right near these two new schools. I have heard someone is trying to plat another 100 or so homes down on Busey Road. I read some where that the Ricketts are wanting to extend there 334 lot sub-division until the market recovers. Are there any new lots being approved in the city? I think Meadowmore is wanting to extend their plats also.

It won't be bussing

Bussing won't be the threat this time. They are in a contract with Petermann they can't afford to get out of. Petermann learned their history lessons before bidding.

They will strike right to the heart of the community with the first threat.

They will offer to eliminate ALL extracirriculars. No other threat is necessary.
