O' brien can win

IF he campaigns, mails his literature instead of mailbox drops.

It will take an investment, one he may not be willing to make. Nobody is going to buy him, he will have to make contributions with his own money bottom line, people will give but not enough to make a difference.

Mail instead of hang literature, he has a lot to say with intelligence, SPEAK and write and he will win.
A little more insight

I can offer some first-hand insight as to O?’Brien?’s campaign finance strategy and his decisions of how to deliver campaign literature in the 05 election as I assisted in these efforts because we have mutual friends. Allusions were made in the past both publicly and on this very website as to how much was spent by former candidates and where it came from. We had reports of candidates having a $10,000 war chest and we had reports of candidates receiving money from as far away as Dublin. Both the high dollar amount and the questions raised why people in Westerville or Dublin would have any vested financial interest in generous contributions to a campaign in Pickerington.

O?’Brien made the decision to run a modestly funded campaign that relied more on legwork than artwork. He also made the decision to accept money only from city residents as no one outside the city needed to be financially involved. Other than a couple of outside the city contributions, which I believe were friends or relatives, all of the modest war chest came from tax paying residents.

Was this the right decision? It?’s hard to tell. But I think it says a lot for his character. Although under-armed and undermanned he still held his head high and faced the opponents waiting at the OK Corral.

Speaking to his character, let me offer a little more insight into that. O?’Brien ran on a slate of 4 candidates of which only two were successful. When faced with one slate member who, in the words of a famous former councilman, approached door-to-door campaigning by going from her bedroom door to her bathroom door, did he abandon her and fend for himself? No, he stuck by her and helped to distribute her literature with his or when he wasn?’t delivering his. Unfortunately, she won, he lost.

When faced with one slate member who sat in every strategy meeting only to take everything discussed and all plans made as to when and where the campaign was going to be and share everything with Jeff Fix, did O?’Brien abandon him and fend for himself? No, they were a team and O?’Brien was a team player. Unfortunately, he won, O?’Brien lost.

When this same fellow candidate sought the endorsement of the NW Republican Club after O?’Brien settled the hash with the club president on not seeking endorsement because one slate member (this very one) was not a registered Republican and the constitution and bylaws (which O?’Brien helped write) explicitly prohibited the club from endorsing a non-Republican, did O?’Brien abandon him and fend for himself? No. Did he take the opportunity to publicly defame the club he was a founding member of? No.

When the city manager approached O?’Brien about his campaign to state that she could never become politically active or involved in any campaign, but then turned around and expended great energy in supporting the Mayor?’s favorite candidates, did O?’Brien seek retaliation against the manager? No.

There are more instances. Just ask O?’Brien. Ask him the whole story behind the P&Z issue. Ask him to tell you about the conversation he and Fix had just before the election about Fix?’s true motives.

So the question I am sure you have, as I did once or twice, is ?“Was O?’Brien politically naive or just an idiot??” Well, I think to be politically na?¯ve you first have to be a politician. He was not and is not today. Was he an idiot? You can answer that if you believe that winning is the only thing. My opinion is that if you hold your head high, take the high road and behave honorably at all times, there is much more to success than winning an election.
I'd vote for him

Heck, why not? Given all the public/private ''medical'' issues that have come out on this mayor and his often bizzare and erratic behavior why not elect a leader who has a track record of being a gentleman and a good family man. I'll take ethics and integrity over a politician any day! I'll take a guy who loves the city over a guy who loves himself.

I think this guy has a pretty decent track record. I went back and looked at some of the issues he addressed and statements he made in the minutes of meetings. Seems pretty sharp. I didn't agree with all his stances but I think he acted responsibly and professionally. That's better than what we have now.

After all, we can't agree with every decision our elected people make but then again, we don't have access to all the information they do to make those decisions. We just read about it in the papers.
Mail it

I support Mitch too, but he has to spend money on postage and put his idea directly in people's hands, not blowing in the grass of their yards. He is intelligent, people will see that, if they read his literature and speak to him. IF the literature is blowing on the street or yard, hey it is cheaper that way but it is MONEY ON THE GROUND.
