Why grant exemptions?
Why grant exemptions to these two developments? The impact fees that the city would lose don't seem significant enought to affect the developer's profit on the whole job. But, it does set the stage for future exemptions. In my opinion, it's a little early in the impact fee game to start granting exemptions. These fees were put into place for a reason and they should be collected.

Over Ride the Veto
Yes; the impact fees were put in place to allow the city to collect a portion of the costs that growth creates in all forms of development and its impact on the city. If you were to read the impact fee ordinance you would find that there are exemptions for certain commercial developments that are allowed under the ordinance. Now the question is do you want commercial growth or don't you? In the 2005 study the city made more money from office developments than they did from other types. So now you are presented with two companies locating to Pickerington with highly paid professionals that their salaries and their taxes will pay back the impact fees in a matter of months and you say to them go some place else. What is all of the ranting and raving going on here lately if it isn't about more commercial. I am sure that council members accused of not wanting commercial development will support this kind of development and they will vote to over ride the Mayor's Veto.

It's political scheme
The whole premise of veto, overriding, not overriding ..... It's all just political whitewash on Mayor McWonderful and his faithful wonder slug Fix's parts.
No one is stupid enough to believe differently, are they?

The Mayor can count to 5
I do not think the Mayor will follow thru. I am sure he can count to FIVE and unless we see a flu bug going around I am sure at least five council members will show up to over ride.
