You Miss My Point

I've stayed out of this for a couple days just to see if anyone would pick up on what I really meant--well, you didn't. So I'll try again.

Don't mess with the school board. If you want a new stadium, build it yourself. Add a half-cent to the local sales tax for 10 years and it's done. You don't even need the the city council. You can do it all by petition and referendum. Make it a municipal stadium and make the booster club a better offer on concessions than they get now and they'll force the BOE to lease it for games, concerts, etc. It might even make money for the community for public events in the summer. Let's face it, we're getting a little crowded downtown for parades, July 4th, Rib and Jazz Fest.

A couple of short notes: Lisa Reade's kids are on track for Central. I believe her oldest is at Ridgeview this year. Not a single member of this BOE was in office when North opened. I know I'm cheating again, arguing from the facts.

Finally, there's too much exercising of jaw muscles around here and not nearly enough hands getting calloused. Ohio really is turning into a blue state. Save us St Hillary!! We're too dumb and helpless to take care of ourselves.

Any Mouse you have bad facts

Any Mouse,

You say you have the facts but the fact is that Gail Oakes and Lori Saunders were on the board when they put the $77 Million bond issue to the voters. I heard Lori say with my own ears that she wanted both facilities to be EQUAL. They are not. They claimed that they thought they would have money left over and they would add it to the Central H.S. They did not.

I am not sure what you are talking about when you say to circulate a petition to increase the sales tax. I guess you are missing the point. The fact is that the taxpayers who are paying down the North High debt also live in the Central district and that is the reason we supposedly don't have the money now. Unless this sales tax also taxes the township residents that enjoy the north facilities then I don't see that flying for the city tax payers to take on even more obligations for the school district and allow the township taxpayers to continue to skate.

If this is such a great program how come other school districts and cities don't use the sales tax?
yes, but . . .

Yes, Gail was on the board when North was built. But, she was in the minority and Lori, Larry Sigmund, & Debbie Carlier (I think that's her name) forced a lot of the North decisions through.

And yes, left over money was used to upgrade Central's facilities. An example of this is the technology upgrade done at Central a year after North was complete. Due to the timing (i.e., better gadgets out there a year later), Central's stuff (and I mean classroom tools, actually used for the students) is newer, better, etc. than North's. I don't have other examples off the top of my head, but I know the money was used for improvements at Central. New lockers, perhaps is another example.

I still like anymouses's idea for the community to fund a stadium.
City sales tax??? I don't think

I have just discovered that Any Mouse is female. She was losing an argument and she changed the subject. She claimed to have the facts and I just went back and found that Wes was on the Board when North opened. So her absolute statement is wrong in three parts.

I have been looking into the Ohio Revised code. I find NO Authority given to cities to collect sales tax. The only authorities in Ohio that can collect sales tax are the state and they allow the county to collect through the state process. I am sure if that was a possible source of revenue you would see cities using it now.

So Any Mouse; I won't will forget you didn't know all of your facts if you can tell me how a city in Ohio can collect sales taxes.
