McDonald's was open, huh?
Sorry you had to work. Call one of your friends who went. What, no friends? It probably went like this then. Candy was passed out that kids'll sneak to school in violation of policy because parents will let it happen. Literature was passed out telling us how much commercial developement is needed, with no details as to the 5 w's. Then it will be thrown away. Some will say they're going to help the seniors. That's risky based upon the last election. Some will tell us their vision when all the time they've been in office they've done little to nothing. Others will bash the competiton. Some smiled. Some looked serious. Hands were shaken. Some walked. Some are too fat to walk. Then they all went to get some deep fried fish. Hope this helps. By You want fries with that? |

Boring
I didn?’t go to the parade to see any politicians. I was there to see my kid march in the band. I will say they did have four bands this year and that is an improvement. As an overall commentary these parades and festivals have become very boring over my life time. When I was a kid we marched if a number of cities and villages and it seemed that holidays like Labor Day we would march at least three different places. The only thing that held us back was the schedules of the different parades. I remember some parades would have 6 or 7 high school bands in them. Many times one of the military bands would show up. They all entertained. Most communities would have neighborhood floats and there would we contests on who had the best one. Now a days you see a SUV or pick-up truck with a magnetic sign on the side touting a politician or some company?’s wares. Even the SUVs and Pick-up trucks look the same. What ever happen to a neighborhoods using a neighborhood riding mower and pulling a wagon with some kind of theme to the parade viewers? What ever happen to the kids decorating their bicycles and riding in the parade? What happened to the CLOWNS. Are they being replaced by (I won't say it) Everyone is so busy now. Where are we all heading and what happened to the simple pleasures of life? |

Don't forget
Isn't there always the obligatory ''let's stand up for the veterans'' thing? You know, they march by in too tight I-wanna-be-an-airborne-ranger uniforms. Usually with longer, gray hair, beards and sunglasses. Look kinda like Sandanistas circa 1985. |
