Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Is more money the answer

Posted in: PATA
Like normal; I have been waiting for some kind of explanation for the need of additional funding for the Pickerington Local School District. A couple of days ago I received a post card urging me to vote for issue 8.

I found the post card to be mostly double talk and not really something I can understand the real need for the issue to pass. Added to that I read in the Times-Sun comments from the PEA (Pickerington Teacher?’s Union) urging support for the levy also. They want the voters to give to the PTO?’s along with raising our own taxes.

Who is writing their material?

How many industries have we heard of that call in the unions and they sit down and to keep the business afloat the union give up concessions to the company. Many times these unions employee professionals and employees with multiple degrees. Yet these unions see the hand writing on the wall and they give up benefits so they all can be employed for a few more years and to keep the business profitable. Here we have a union that says ?“this community cares about its teachers?” so we bury them with unparalleled benefits and pay and allow them to work part time for full time pay and they keep coming back for more. We keep giving more.

Trying to link the caring about our teachers and our children is bogus in my mind. Yes we care about the children. No one loves our kids like we do. But the teachers are adults and they should be treated as employees like any one of us. They are working for us.

So the question is if the levy fails and the school looses the $2.8 Million will it hurt to have a little larger class size and maybe NOT hire a few teachers next year? Is taking on a larger work load and being more productive any different than you or I being in an office or department that doesn?’t replace an employee when they leave despite more business? How many of us have been loaded down with more work and because of completion in our business our company can?’t raise our prices? Yet we continue to allow the PEA and the school board to propose and we grant them higher prices for the education we receive for our kids.

Maybe it is time for the schools to be more productive and live with the money they already receive. The second point is I feel the school administration is not telling the WHOLE truth about the condition of the schools. Clearly the state is not grading the schools as high as they once were and we must begin to question why? Is giving them more money going to fix that or will it just further the enrichment of the teacher?’s and their union? Maybe these teachers need to prove themselves to us before we grant them anymore money or benefits.

IS THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION LYING ABOUT THEIR NEEDS?
a couple of questions

why didn't you sign your name?

why didn't you send this to the local papers for publication prior to the election?

why aren't you running for school board?
Just Like...

...most of the folks around here...all bark and very little bite.

I've made this point several times and I agree with you completely. How many letters have you written? How many doors have you knocked on? How many phone calls have you made?

If you believe that fervantly take you message to the public instead of the limited audiance on this message board.

I believe you shouldn't be complaining unless you're trying to do something about it. Make the move away from a barber shop bitch session and become and activist. Otherwise you're doing nothing more than complaining. Do something about it!
