Ladies, Gentlemen and Mark,
I am hearing some very strong voices telling me to re-run these three initiatives that I filed January 8th 2002. Yet I haven?’t received one phone call from people in either the City of Pickerington or in Violet Township about volunteering to help me circulate these initiative petitions. I am in the book.
Yes the city council is trying to work their spin into the process. In my heart, I know the city will never delivery what they promised on April 16th. Lou Postage made a promise to promptly get them through his finance committee. It still sits there. He also promised to listen to the 350 signers of these petitions. Yet he voted against sending this emergency City Charter change on to the voters. That at one time was called an Indian giver. However that may not be politically correct today. Has the issue changed?
For all of you folks out there I do have the new Petitions ready to go. They are on the proper forms. Actually I had to special order these forms from the Secretary of State through our attorney. They are not the same forms used on regular initiatives. What Mr. Mapes failed to tell the City Council, that employees him, was that for a City Charter Change I DO NOT NEED to register or file with the city prior to circulating the petition. There will be signatures on that petition in the coming week. Once I complete a couple of other projects.
The two ordinances proposed by Mrs. Ricketts are being worked on as I write. I am not as enthusiastic about them as the city charter amendments. The problem with ordinances is that the Council can simple ignore them or vote in new ordinances. They can?’t change the Charter without voter approval.
Maybe we need to find other ways to change the direction of this city council. Maybe using the City Charter might be one of those vehicles. I will say that I and a couple of others are working on additional City Charter Changes. Many relate to the discussions on this WEB site today. If you are a registered voter in the state of Ohio please contact me or Rita Ricketts. We need your help. I smell change coming just like a rain storm.
