I have a different perspective on the Oakes. I have found both Dan & Gail wonderful giving people. I am sure there was little if no profit on the signs made for the levy's. Had the contract gone to any other Commercial Printer it would have been much more expensive.

If there are two people that are committed to our schools & their success it's Dan & Gail Oakes. As the President of the Friends of the Pickerington Public Library, I have had the opportunity to work with both Dan & Gail on an Elementary Reading Initiative we have in all 5 of the Elementary Schools called, ''Patches for Progress''. Dan has gone out of his way to provide printing services that have made this program possible - yes I pay for them, but a fraction of what I would pay at any other Commercial Printer & am very appreciative at the assistance they give us. They have also worked with me to produce the Kindergarten portion of Patches for Progress - which consists of a Terrific Sticker book & sticker versions of the patches that the older children earn by reading. After pricing this across the city & across the country - it would not be in our school system today without the help of Dan & Gail Oakes.

Our Elementary Children have read 1,080,000 minutes through the month of March & are projected to hit over 1.5M minutes by years end. This program won a National Award last year & has even received a letter to our kids from Laura Bush. The Oakes helped my group make this possible.

You need to take personal attacks offline, the Oakes support the schools & if anything Gail is looking for a Long Term Solution - it is not going to be an easy path in the next year. But we need to work together not against each other to maintain an effective school system. Solutions will not occur in one place but many - all of our options need to be explored as well as the long term ramifications of those solutions.

You need to step back & take a deep breath. There are plenty of reasons our schools are where they are today & plenty of people that could be given credit for putting them there.

Many people support out schools & will continue to do so. I believe your comments are doing more harm than good to the cause you hold so dear.

Mark, there really is no Politically Correct way to state this, not that I really tried.

You are a flippin' idiot.

I called Kinkos to see how much they charge for Yard signs and of course they'll give a generous discount for a large number like a 1000 or 2500 but the base price for a small quantity was $39/each. Say they give a huge 90% discount on a 1000 signs, that is still $3900. i.e. Nearly twice what Gail charged for the same quantity.

$1985 for 1000 signs sounds to be about the cost of the supplies and a negligable profit if any at all.

Maybe Gail should stay out of it the next time and we'll get maybe 50% or 25% of the signs for the same price. That sounds like a good economic move - don't you think?

Stay surrounded by your 18yr old buddies. I doubt they'll question anything you have to say and will just jump on your bandwagon chanting ''Uher, Uher, Uher'' which you obviously relish so dearly.

Thinking adults on the other hand are definitely your enemy. So give the smear campaign a rest Mark because nobody's buying it.

I haven't agreed with everything Gail has said when we've discussed school issues in the past but that is expected. I do however, respect her and Bruce which is a lot more than I can say about you.

You cheap skate. What did you donate? The Oakes have always provided their supplies to the school levy campaigns at COST. In some cases below cost. If you want to be so generous then you donate $6,000 to the school levy campaign.

I think the Oakes are some of the finest citizens we have here in Pickerington. That is something I can't say about everyone that lives here.

Shameful!

It's terrible that the Pickerington for Kids Committee was forced to purchase the signs from the Oakes family business.

I am certain Dan and Gail both support our schools, there support is not a result of the pultry 6k they were paid for materials to produce the over abundant signs.
