I haven't called the police since I reported some kids going after the feral hogs in the neighborhood. The ones they said they couldn't do anything about, probably because of our private streets. I have called a few times this year and they responded every time, and none of my calls were to 911, and not once was I told to go online to file my report. My point was simply to counter your fear mongering that was irrelevant to the disposition of the gate.
You and other fear mongers are trying to scare people into keeping the gate with the threat of crimes the gate is powerless to stop, when it is the threat posed by people who know they can drive anyway they please because they are on private streets that removing the gate does have the power to stop.
My kid is away and a junior in college.
If you're so worried and unhappy with the prospect of losing the gate then perhaps you should move. I mean really, as a cop, your apparent disdain for the neighborhood kids isn't helping public relations. Kids need to know that cops care, and that they are sympathedic to their needs. What message do you think you're sending?
Ultimately, the shareholders of the association will decide if the gate comes down. Perhaps an article in the news letter or a letter writing campaign explaining how to go about removing the gate and dedicating the streets open for use by the general public is what's needed to ensure a fully informed neighborhood. Either way, I don't really have a dog in this hunt, and I'm okay with just doing my bit to help inform residents.
