I just left my brothers house in Stone Oak. They are not gated. The entire time we were outside EVERY car was driving 45 to 60 mph in a 30 MPH neighborhood.

It you think that by removing the gate we are going to suddenly have cops in here writing tickets you are wrong. It's not going to happen.

I have been a cop for a while and I don't even bother stopping someone unless they are going 11mph over the posted limit. Most cops are around 8-11 mph over unless it is in a school zone.

Removing the gates will not gets cops in here writing tickets. You will be lucky if 5 get written in here in an entire year...

I'll also add that how fast do people drive down Nacogdoches? 60 mph seems the norm. How often do you see anyone pulled over getting a ticket?? Very seldom if ever and that is a major street.

On a daily basis how many cops do you see on 410 getting speeders? 2 or 3?? AND THAT IS 410!! They are not going to come work radar in our neighborhood.

Cops are not even responding to alot of calls anymore. There are not enough out there.

The gate is just a selling point behind the false sense of security. It adds no value to the homes, especially these homes. Nice try though. I personally wouldn't advocate a percieved monetary value over child safety, but hey, to each their own.

To be honest, your deadbolt on your door is less secure than the gate. One kick your door is open. Based on your logic we should remove your front door because it is a false sense of security.

While were at we can open your windows with a brick, those have to go to...

The gate is not perfect, but it does keep people out, just like your door and windows.

Again, nice try, but I can use deadly force to preserve, protect, and defend my person, family, and property, and that goes double at night. Also, there's no alarm on the gate. I can't do thing one about folks putting the neighborhood kids at risk with their wreckless and dangerous driving habits. At least with the gate down, and the streets dedicated for use by the general public, ticketing can occur, regardless of how often.

With private streets more people are likely to violate traffic laws with impunity than B&E where one can currently call the police. The real issue here is the enforcement of traffic laws, and right now that's impossible. Police can respond to all other crimes, but if we go by your logic there aren't enough police to count on them for anything. As a cop you should be ashamed of yourself for that bit of misinformation just to try and manipulate the situation in order to keep a gate that probably won't go anywhere anyway. Every time I've called the police they've responded, every time.

As I've mentioned before my only concern is for the neighborhood kids put at risk by jercky drivers. I don't think a parent should have to bury a child before something gets done, but clearly there are some who care more about a gate than the safety of our neighborhood's children. I just think that's sad.
