Trugreen. These a#$holes go around ringing our doorbells to solicit for their terrible service. They and every other solicitor have no consideration for anyone but themselves. Around 2:00 PM today I get not one doorbell push but two in a row. I jumped out of bed and about ripped the front door of the hinges and then proceeded to give these two idiots a piece of my mind. Of course I get the usual excuses that they have business with the neighbors and on and on but they don't listen to a word I just said to them. We banter back and forth at least four or more times before they turn and walk to the next house. I asked them if they can understand the large lettering on the front entrance sign saying, 'NO SOLICITORS'. They reply with an excuse like it doesn't apply to them. So typical for these people. I tell them to use the mail and the paper like most respectable businesses but this is when they turned and walked away. The guy doing all the talking said he would make a note of my address so that this wouldn't happen again. Yeah, right. I don't believe it for a minute. I had their service many years ago and used them for a year. About half way through the year the kid doing the spraying had one of those large backpack sprayer go bust and the contents saturated the one back side of my yard. Needless to say the grass turned brown and died. When I mentioned it to him a month later his story was that he was on the other side of the house. He didn't even remember that I came out the back door only to find him inspecting the broken sprayer right after it happened and then telling me all about it. I cancelled the service after seven months as I didn't notice any change in the condition of my yard and to make matters worse, my yard was actually going downhill. It wasn't long before I started getting junk mail from this company. I called and asked them to stop. I wrote a letter asking them to take my name off their mailing list, telling them what lousy service they had from my experience. It was years later before the mailings stopped. I will never recommend Trugreen to anyone and I will tell everyone about my experience with them. Lousy, lousy, lousy and a waste of money to boot. Save your $40 a month. Or, I'm sure it's more now.

The grass isn't always greener.

I also find it annoying. I take pride in my lawn and like to think I keep up with it pretty well. So when I get a flyer on my door, I get annoyed. It's like if you were selling weight loss supplies, would you talk to a lean person or a person that is overweight and in need of your product? I work in a sales driven company and understand how hard door to door selling is and do sympathize with these people but I don't want them knocking on my door. You mentioned it happened at 2:00-why would anyone come around when most people are at work? Northdale had a problem last year with this and then had break-ins and thought they could be related. I will share that with the solicitor and tell them they are lucky no one has called the sheriff and that tends to cut short their pitch. You can also try role reversal. I used to do this with phone solicitors. I interrupt their sales pitch and tell them I am with Amway and ask if they would like to join and tell them they need to hear my hour long presentation. When they say no thanks- you tell them its not fair if they want you to here their's and won't even listen to yours. This tends to annoy them and cut their pitch down! With the economy down people are getting desperate and I suspect more solicitors and crime are right around the corner. One last trick- I saw the cutest cartoon in a retail account. It had a well dressed man with a dog biting his rear end and the caption read: Salesmen welcome,dog food isn't cheap. Maybe we need one on all our front doors!

Preying on non-working woman

I believe these day-time solicitors like to find stay at home mom's or non-working women to prey on, thinking they are easy and can't so no to offers.
Does anyone know if there are any laws to protect us from solicitors? We have signage posted. Ignorance is no excuse for the law I was always told.
