2 miles

I don't consider being inside the 2 mile radius close enough to walk. I am the same way and transport my child and others to school and back every day. 2 miles is a long way to walk esp. when its cold. Plus in this day in age when so many pedophiles and other freaks are free to roam our streets, it just isnt safe to let our kids walk alone. There are several sex offenders still living in the vicinty of schools and all it takes one second to lose a child. I am with you mil, they are getting worse and worse each year.

I could be wrong....

(wouldn't be the first time)..but doesn't every child who rides a bus pay a transportation fee at registration? I know it wasn't always that way, and I seem to remember when my son was in school they started adding a bus fee for everyone.

anyway, just wondered.

mil...I agree abou registration

I know they offer early registration by mail, but they should probably offer online registration. It would eliminate the chaos not only for us, but for them as well. Most of us end up having to go to the high-school on registration day because it's also picture day (another dumb idea).

I don't really have any answers, but I agree that there should be a more efficient way. I HATE registration day!

Not sure

if everyone has to pay, but one of the kids MIL is talking about is my daughter, her granddaughter. We do live within 2 miles of her school, but there ain't no way she's walking there. Firstly, the street layout makes this prohibitive. She would have to walk mostly on a busy, hilly road that has no sidewalk. Secondly, she is small for her age, and there are no houses along this same stretch of road. It would be all too easy for someone to just pull up beside her and throw her into their car. I understand the school charging for bus service, as this has to be very costly for them, but we got a little upaet that we were paying for this service, and she missed the bus 3 days in a row at the beginning of the school year because the homeroom teacher let them all out late. Talked to the school and got it all taken care of, though, so its all good.
