The Pizza place on 2nd street on the corner was John's Pizza.  It was owned by John Zaimes (and family).   Don't they own/run Hawkeye Pizza in West Liberty now?   I remember John's pizzas were always cut into small squares for serving?   That's where my kids always wanted to go (pre- Happy Joes)!   The first pizza in town was Pasquale's, I believe (about 1958?).  It was owned by Pasquale Sateriano (sp?).  He also made spaghetti there.  It started out up near the corner of Lucas and Newell on Lucas (the old Hahnbaums Grocery store).  He eventually built a new place down on Grandview where the Mexican restaurant is now across from Harpers.

I remember making our own at home from the Chef Boy Ar Dee pizza mix kits that came in boxes.   It was simple fun back then.   And cheaper than taking the whole family out for pizza.   If someone had said "Taco Pizza" or "Breakfast Pizza" back then we would have laughed at them and wondered what they were talking about!

Chinese food in Muscatine came in cans from the Grocery and was labeled "Chung King".

Mmmmm...Chef Boy Ar Dee pizza mixes. They were great, and are unchanged....still eat them today.   Used to mix one up on saturday nights in the 60's and watch professional wrestling on Channel 8....commentator Roger Kent, local interviews by Jim King. The Crusher, Vern Gagne, Mad Dog Vachon and Harley Race were regulars.  Live events at John Odonnel stadium (they used to set the ring up on the pitcher's mound) and Wharton Fieldhouse in Moline.  I remember the Crusher driving his silver Cadillac into Odonnel...and I mean right into the infield...with a huge cigar in his mouth.

Boy, the list goes on forever.  I remember the Red Sox when George Long was the manager. Ina Mae's, George's Steak House downtown. MCC basketball games packing the gym at Central.  Sledding at Weed Park and skating on the lagoon...

Chung King?! Why did you have to bring up that crap?! My mom (the worst cook) use to feed us that poo. (I think I just threw up a little.) LOL.

BTW, is "worst" a word? haha

Also, I personally know one of the guys that invented the taco pizza for Happy Joes.

I love donkey kong! My boys had me play a new 3d version and I was like~ what is this crap?!
