The Pizza place on 2nd street on the corner was John's Pizza. It was owned by John Zaimes (and family). Don't they own/run Hawkeye Pizza in West Liberty now? I remember John's pizzas were always cut into small squares for serving? That's where my kids always wanted to go (pre- Happy Joes)! The first pizza in town was Pasquale's, I believe (about 1958?). It was owned by Pasquale Sateriano (sp?). He also made spaghetti there. It started out up near the corner of Lucas and Newell on Lucas (the old Hahnbaums Grocery store). He eventually built a new place down on Grandview where the Mexican restaurant is now across from Harpers.
I remember making our own at home from the Chef Boy Ar Dee pizza mix kits that came in boxes. It was simple fun back then. And cheaper than taking the whole family out for pizza. If someone had said "Taco Pizza" or "Breakfast Pizza" back then we would have laughed at them and wondered what they were talking about!
Chinese food in Muscatine came in cans from the Grocery and was labeled "Chung King".
