"In a few cases perhaps, it had served a better purpose, but when it's used to gain ground or stall a measure for political purpose, well it just doesn't stand too tall."

How do you come to these conclusions?   Really, how do you do it?

From what I can see almost all difference of opinion between the two parties in the Senate can be called "political".   I believe most filibusters have been conducted by both parties to prevent some measure advancing or becoming law that the minority party thought was a bad measure.

I guess the only "political purpose" you might be thinking of is when a minority party keeps a bill from advancing thinking it will harm the majority party and thus garner more votes or power for the minority party????  If not, what exactly do you call "political purposes"?   How often has that happened?

Hell, I thought that's why Senators get elected, to do politics.  That's how the Senate conducts business.  And by politics I mean trying by persuasion, and other legal methods, to win their (and indirectly the citizens that elected them) points and agenda.  That's what I want from the guys I vote for.

So, what do YOU mean by "political purpose" and why is it bad?

There it is. Politicizing isn't proper but political purpose is? One and the same, it's not for  the counrty they are intended but for special interests, votes and personal gain. Political purpose. Unless one has room to gain too, then it's a good practice? Give us posturing as a measure to advance a nation and not the best intention for the few, then it's correct. Silly little games and those who get suckered into it's defense. Well not I, says the little kittens.
