Good for you!  I sense real progress.  You were close, but in reality a small percentage of "us" pays for most of it.

Who do you include in this "small percentage"?   Who do you exclude?

Everybody who buys motor fuel for their car or truck pays.    I think that alone is greater than a "small percentage".   Every car or truck owner pays.   If you buy goods delivered in a truck you contribute.   That's a huge percentage.   If you ride a bus you contribute.

So your next assignment is to figure out how much you're willing to give to the government.  Are you willing to give them 100% of what you make and let them make all of your decisions?  Maybe 50% and let them make half of your decisions?  How much is enough?

Take your time.

What difference does it make to you?   I'm satisfied with what I pay now.   They could increase it a bit for a good cause and I'd still be satisfied.

I think for what I pay in taxes, having a safe car and the ability to drive on a million miles of decent, safe roads to reach any place in the country is a bargain.

Beats having to hitch the team to the wagon by a long ways.

That doesn't change the fact that all the items underlined are the result of government, either bigger or smaller.

You are lying again. This post is about red light and traffic speed cameras. The underlined segments, as I previously told you, only have one element of government related to them. The rest are capitalism at it's finest. And with Branstad making the engineers work smarter; we have a win win.

How did Branstad do that?   I know a few engineers and I don't think Branstad improved their intelligence.

First you say it's because of big government. Now, you say either bigger or smaller government. You can't even keep your lies straight anymore and you look foolish in trying to have it both ways!

You brought in term "bigger government" into the conversation.    I'd be happy with just "government" .   I don't care if you designate it "bigger" or "smaller".

Either way, government is still responsible for most of the improved safety.

If you disagree, tell us exactly what did the capitalists do on their own, without government regulations or encouragement, to improve safety.

We won't get any response to this.   Might be he agrees.

Did they add turn signals?

Did they add the center stop light?

Did they add air bags?

Did they add seat belts?

Did they require better drivers ed?

Did they add the high back seats?

Did they remove the dangerous hood ornaments?

Did they voluntarily do crash testing and set standards?

Did they keep drunken driver's off the road?

Did they invent the drivers license?

Did they require drivers testing to get a license?

Did they set speed limits?

Did they set sight limits on highways?

Did they set limits on the degree of curvature for curves?

Did they do anything about signs and pavement markings?

Do they add salt on the roads when it snows?

Do they operate snow plows?

Do they put up the snow fences?

You get the idea, I hope.

The producer's, on their own, are not primarely responsible for improving safety, unless it is demanded by their customers.  Neither are the legislators.  The buying public, and voters, are the primary instigators of safety devices and measures.  The producers and "capitalists" in response to the free market (as always).  And the government, only in response to the voters.  If you think some politician is sitting around thinking up safety laws just out of the goodness of their hearts, you are a fool.  These things are all done (when legitimate) in response to direct, or indirect demands of the citizenry.  If some measures are mistakenly introduced that are not really demanded by the citizenry, those legislators and governors and presidents usually pay for it in the end in some way.

See Milton Friedman on The Proper Role of Government.  You can google up the youtube.  It's only about 10 minutes long, but well worth it.
