Why some vote no
I supported the levy and worked on the campaign. When I went door-to-door, I had one person tell me ''They've had it up to here with levies. The school board should make do with what they have.'' And, I had one soccer coach tell me he voted no because of less than acceptable electrical work (the fire alarm system doesn't work properly?) at North High School.
Some people will find a reason, valid or not, to vote no.

Just a thought
PRESENT THE BIGGER SCHOOL CONCEPT AGAIN.
The cut and paste links below relate to the Middle Level Concept. However, I think they could be used at all levels of education. One large elementary building would relieve overcrowding dramatically at that level.
Is K through 4 negatively affected if there are 500 or 1,000 students in the building? As long as there is adequate infrastructure I firmly believe there will not be a negative impact on the student.
Then we further study the same information for the Middle Level and Junior High.
I say: BUILD?’EM BIGGER, EDUCATE?’EM, and GRADUATE?’EM

Big Box
I guess Big Box is in fashion with some people...

Is a Big Box the Answer?
One standard-size elementary won't do the job. We have serious overcrowding, not only at K-4, but also at 5-6. And, given all the new housing the old city council approved before they were voted out of office, most of which still remains to be built, the problem is only going to get worse.
The School Board already has asked voter approval to build one jumbo elementary and met with resounding defeat. Most of our teachers and a lot of voters felt that this would be educationally harmful, especially for small kids.
But it probably would cost less and, although it might not solve our overcrowding problems, would at least take a bigger bite out of them. Is this the approach the School Board should take now? Would this get more votes than the proposal the voters just turned down?
