Can't afford it

I voted no because I simply couldn't afford more taxes. The rubbish about only $.37 per day meant nothing to me. I will say I was less angry this time in voting.

I know you all don't want to hear my story just like I don't care to hear the teacher's story and all of their needs. However about four years ago my retirement hit the tank with the 9/11 mess and it has taken until just recently to just begin to recover. The retirement I once dreamed of is gone. I lost my job a few years ago and I was out of work for nearly a year. That took a big hit on our savings and we had to refinance our home. They have allowed us to put our payments to the end of the mortgage. So that took a huge cut into our equity on the house. At the same time our daughter was struggling through College and has now had to take the full load in student loans. Trying to get out from under the debt burden we tried to sell our home and it was on the market two years. I am encouraged that a neighbor was able to sell her home but it was a loss or should I say it didn't appreciate very much over the ten years we lived hear. So the theory that the school keep the home values up is a bogus argument to me and my neighbor.

However I will say I did receive word that my mortgage payments which I have escrowed my taxes and insurance in is going down a few dollars per month. I have taken a new job but it was for less money than I have made in many years. However to recover the funds that have gone away in the last six years in only five years before I retire I doubt I will ever come close to what I expected in 2000. Your chance of getting my vote in the next year is probably a low percentage. If I can get some of my assets moved to cut my monthly expenses down in the next few months and by this fall some of the credit issues on my record will be off and I can apply for a new home loan and a smaller house.

In addition I have been diagnosed with a serious illness that probably is not terminal. However it will probably take constant medical attention and maybe some hospital stays over the remainder of my life. That means I will probably need to consider retiring at age 65 or later. The new company I work for has medical insurance available but I will not have time to build up medical retirement benefits.

The fact is that I have worked hard my entire life. In that life time I have worked most of the time with only a couple of short periods of being out of work. However it was never as bad as the last five or six years. My wife and I are faced with selling our large house now and trying to roll over as much equity into a smaller home to make ends meet. That will more than likely allow a new family with school age children to buy our house.

I believe the schools and the teachers will need to face the lower expectations the me and my family have had to face over the last few years. Whether it be split sessions or year round school or what ever to get by.

The bottom line is you will get your taxes when I can afford to vote more taxes in.
You Have my Sympathy

I am sorry to hear your story. Nobody deserves such a run of misfortune. But there, I am afriad to say, but for the grace of the almighty, go all of us. Most of us are just one pay check from poverty.
Crying

I am wondering if Lisa Reade has stopped crying by now?

There are plenty of parents that are upset that the bond issue didn't pass.
