Typical of a Union Contract

Katelyn -

What you've posted is pretty typical of a union contract.

You can contact any company that has a union & get something very similar to what you've just posted. This occurs across industries & is not just related to the teaching profession.

Then you understand

I had no idea people on this site were this familiar with union contracts!

Then everybody reading this understands that the goal of a union is protect its own members, not the children, parents or taxpayers of a school district. When the Pickerington Education Association (PEA) goes to the table to negotiate a new contract, as happens every two years, they are trying to get the most for the teachers, regardless of the state of the finances of the taxpayers who fund the district and the teachers.

As I asked in my letter to the editor, are the teachers more important (or entitled) than the individuals and families who make up the community?

I'm curious as to what everyone thinks.
Let the talks begin

Katelyn

While you are on a roll here with your union contracts I have wondered for some time now about WHO negotiates for the tax payers in these contract negotiations. If it is ''management'' don't they also get raises if the teacher's union get raises? I think the logic there is we can we be paying the teacher's more then the administration.

The other issue is ''if we don't give the teacher's this money they will go somewhere else.'' I say don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out of town teachers.

Finally I would say there are firms and negotiators that will negotiate these contracts for a fee. I think it would be well worth the costs to hire someone outside the district with no ties to either party represent the taxpayers in these talks.
You Don't Say

So the teachers have a union and the union represents their interests. That's shocking!
