Lancaster vs. Pickerington

Mark: ?“There you go again?”.

?“By my comments I have no children in our schools?”. You just nailed the problem with you and your buddies. I am sure you would love to know my name and the name of my children. Exactly what difference does it matter whether I have children in ?“OUR?” schools or not. If I am a tax payer that supports ?“OUR?” school system then I deserve logical and thought out arguments that make sense. This cheerleader type crap, which you put out, shows your total ignorance on any of these subjects. You get your marching orders and a few words that are threatening to young parents that the sky is falling if we don?’t pass yet one more levy. For those of us that do ask questions you attack personally and don?’t tell me that you or the school wouldn?’t take it out on either me or my children if you knew who we were. In fact, one of my kids has meet you and told me she thinks you are a ?“Butt?”. I guess the catechism lesions failed. I unsuccessfully tried to make her aware that you are an adult and she should respect you. Her name is Pepsi.

Oh! by the way. How do you know I don?’t live in Lancaster now? You know they have internet access available in Lancaster. I can log onto the PATA web site all over the world. Al Gore might be able to help you with a better understanding of how it works since he invented it.

Clearly you are still having problems grasping how Real Estate Taxes work and the millage against the assessed value of your home is levied. I see Mr. Rigelman has more explaining to do. I don?’t remember talking interest rates in 2007. That is different than inflation rates or appreciation of real estate.

Actually Mark I do have some very close ties to The Lancaster City Schools athletics department. I think you are off base to suggest they have a sub par education system. Didn?’t Lancaster High School produce an Ohio State quarter back that lead OSU to the national title in 1968. Wasn?’t this same quarterback recently inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame?

There You Go Again

Dr. Pepper:

And, there you go again. It is fun using words like crap, and calling people rich, butts and ignorant ... isn't it. And, I am not quite sure what the fact that Lancaster produced a OSU quarterback in the mid-sixties has to do with the financial crisis facing our schools.

Keep to the facts, Dr. Pepper. The fact is Pickerington schools have significantly outperformed Lancaster schools both in the classroom and on the field. PLSD is one of the best rated school district in the nation and Lancaster is the worst performing district in the county! Lancaster can spend more per pupil than Pickerington due to their industrial tax base. And, the median income in Pickerington is far greater than the median income in Lancaster so naturally we will pay more taxes. What fact don't you understand?

It appears you would like to continue the 14 year tradition of wasting money on trailers to educate our young one. You have offer no other solution to help our schools outside of voting no like they have done in Lancaster since 1960.

And, it appears that the present value of a dollar financial concept is beyond your grasp so I can understand why you struggle with minimal milleage concept. I'm sure some will never understand it. But, my bet is on the fact that the overwhelming majority of PLSD voters are extremely bright and intelligent and completely understand it.

And, by the way, I wasn't the one who suggested that Lancaster City Schools has a sub par education system. The State of Ohio did.

Mr. Uher should be ashamed

Mr. Uher a friend sent me your posting on the web site and I was insulted. I grew up in Pickerington and about six years ago my husband and I decided to move to Lancaster to enable me to be a stay at home Mom. I feel our decision was the correct one for the entire family. Reading what you had to say about our school system and our children only reinforces our decision of six years ago.

My oldest daughter was in the eighth grade when we moved here and she struggled with her studies for that first year until she got caught up. She graduated with honors and now attends Ohio University. She was in the band and they did play at Disney World at least three times over the last 8 years. She also ran track and I don?’t remember Pickerington ever being such a hurtle for our team. Westerville South was the best team overall. Our focus has always been on doing your best. My daughter received academic and athletic scholarships at OU.

I remember Pickerington always played schools smaller than themselves in football. One time Canal Winchester came over on a Friday night and beat the pants off of the Pickerington football team. Pickerington had twice the enrollment as Canal. After the game, Canal?’s football team ran wind sprints in the end zones just to show the home team that they didn?’t break a sweat. Pickerington was outraged and I don?’t think they ever played Canal again. Doesn?’t your school system have about 25% more students than the Lancaster City Schools?

I do agree with you that you haven?’t seen Lancaster?’s band attend many prestigious marching events. I also haven?’t seen most of the Lancaster Band members getting arrested for shop lifting in Orlando, Florida after one of these prestigious band events.

There is NO Comparison

Dear Ex-Picktown Mom:

I am glad you are happy in Lancaster and that your daughter did so well at OU.

However, it appears your memory about Pickerington football is a bit cloudy. In the all the years I have lived in Pickerington, I don't ever recall us playing Canal. We may have played Canal when we first started our football program in the mid-sixties when THEY were a larger school than we were ... believe it or not, we have only had a football program since the mid-sixties.

In terms of playing smaller schools in football, the playoff system now has prevented larger schools from 'beating up' on smaller schools. You lose points by playing smaller schools. And, conference officials decide what schools play in each conference based on ENROLLMENT. Pickerington is still not the largest school in our conference (Westland and Newark are larger).

We are in the same conference with Lancaster, and over the last six years, we have won nearly half of all championships ... leaving Lancaster to split the rest with Westerville North, Gahanna, Newark and Westland. And, since we have been in the same conference, we have double the number of conference/district/regional championships in track than Lancaster has. Two of our juniors placed second in the state this year in track ... and will probably be state champions next year.

And, yes, our students did make some mistakes in Florida ... but sometimes we as adults make mistakes too. I believe how people respond to a mistake is important too. Our band students performed marvelous community service tasks as a result of their mistake.

Again, I want to point out that it is the State of Ohio that has labeled our district outstanding and Lancaster the worst in the county.

Enjoy Lancaster.
