Levels of Cognitive Functioning

Posted in: Historic Kenwood
What's with all these big, huge words in the newsletter? Cripes, I had to go out and buy a new dictionary just so I could figure out what the heck I was reading. Wanna know what made me really mad? I left my new and impressive, leather-bound dictionary on my front porch and the stray dog next door got hungry and ate it. Oh well, so much for figuring out what I'm reading!

Want to know what my interpretation of ''levels of cognitive functioning'' means?? There are a bunch of maniacs in here who obviously never took Driver's Education and rely solely on what little reactive (please note, I didn't use the word proactive) brain cells they have left to guide them around the streets of this fine city.

I live at an intersection where the stop sign is only a suggestion to many people speeding through. Think I'll call the city on Monday and request a new sign to be put up here on Dartmouth...''Road Open to Drivers with High Levels of Cognitive Functioning - All the Rest- Hang a U-EEEE 'Cause You Gots To Get Up and GO!''

Bye bye, gotta run and make some phone calls.

ssscccrrreeeeeccchhhh!

I too, live on the same street as Diane and see the cars driving WAY too fast. I was getting out of my car the other day, and this nice new pickup truck came barreling around Diane's corner at about 35+ miles per hour (where the STOP sign is located, yet ignored), then preceded to pick up speed as it neared me. I started waving my arms in the air, and almost stepped closer to the truck just to startle the guy, but thought twice about it, as I'm pregnant and didn't want to harm the baby. Who knows if he would have stopped. At that point my husband is yelling at the top of his lungs, not even noticing the guy's windows are up, and he can't hear anything. CRAZY! We then tried to find the guy, but we were going the speed limit, so you know we didn't locate him. Probably on his way down to Ferg's for a beer with his buddies. Just cutting through, no big deal. In the mean time, there are 10+ kids who play on our block of Dartmouth. Now that summer is coming, we should instruct the kids on watching out for wacked out vehicles. Keep on the sidewalks ya'll, things are getting crazy around here. By the way, that is one of MANY MANY MANY instances on Dartmouth and 23rd!
Why Did You Move here?????

Diane,
Do you and Raymond do anything other than complain? I have read all of the notes going back and forth about codes, drug marches, etc and the terrible condition of Historic Kenwood. Now you want to attack the newsletter!! Give me a break !!!

Why don't you get involved in the neighborhood association and try doing something constructive???? Why did you move here in the first place??? Bill was right on when he said how much (with positive actions with community involvement) how we have helped turn this neidghborhood around in the last 6 - 8 years (property values certainly atest to that). Why don't you put actions where your complaints are - come to the HKNA meetings, chair a committee and try to be a positive influence. I understand you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

complaining?

Carol,
Yes,I would hope to think that I do much more than mere complaining. I most certainly do put actions where my complaints are! Do you have small kids Carol? Do your kids have to pass by drug dealers and prostitutes on a daily basis? I moved into my home Dec 21,2000 and have been to 3 of the meetings and also on 1 drug march. I happen to have small children so it is most difficult for me to get out at night since my husband is not here at that time. Just because I cannot attend ALL of the meetings does not mean that I'm not doing constructive things. Whatever it is that I am doing is taking up a good chunk of my time so I hope it's worth something. When I walk out my front door I am confronted with people riding up on bikes, visiting my ''neighbors'' to buy their drugs. This starts at about 9:00am. On the other side of me lives a streetwalker who routinely has her ''boyfriends'' pick her up in front of my house. Believe me, this is just the tip of the iceberg and these actions were not going on at the time that I purchased the house. And yes, I am doing much more than mere complaining about these situations! My car (and my neighbor's car) have been hit as a result of people not stopping at the stop sign. What if this was a child Carol? I witness people not making the slightest attempt to even slow down at this stop sign on a regular basis. There are about 15 little kids that play within a 100 foot radius of this intersection. Giving people the benefit of the doubt, I spent an hour on the phone trying to locate the right city person to remove a palm tree that I thought might be blocking the view of drivers. This didn't work so again I've contacted the city and had a traffic study done of this corner. So yes, when I read the newsletter stating that additional signage, bumps, whatever....are not the answer and we should be courteous and we are all at different levels of cognitive functioning it does hit a very sensitive spot within me. Carol, if you were me I would hope you'd feel the same way. I welcome you to swing by and watch the things going on over here and see what all the ''complaining'' is about.
