  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

I completely agree with the cars driving way too fast and people parking on curves.  Last night we had our biggest scare yet on 35th St.  A black PT Cruiser came flying down the St.  The ice cream man was here, it was about 8:40 at night and a bunch of kids from all ages were getting ice cream to celebrate their last day of school and the car didn't even slow down!!  As if that wasn't bad enough, they FLEW around the ice cream truck, all most hit a boy on his bicycle and the flew into a driveway down the street.  At that time 2 or 3 people from inside that home ran out to the car and they flew off again!  It was very bothersome and I'm still upset about it!!  We do yell at cars to slow down when they go by too fast, this is not to be snotty or rude, it's for the safety of our children. We did yell at this car, and it didn't even bother this man.  I do not believe that he lives in the neighborhood, but not only do residents need to slow down, please ask your guests to slow down.  Summer is here and let's all work together to keep out kids safe.  I did put a call into the City Hall today and the lady that answered the phone, I think it was Angie, said she was taking note of this and would give it to the City Administer to see what could be done.  I even suggested speed bumps and if needed I would be willing to go around and raise money for them.  I hope it doesn't come to a need for annoying speed bumps, so let's all slow down and ask our guests to be respectful of our neighborhood.  I love this neighborhood and would hate to see the aftermath if a child was hit.  Thanks.

Yes I have seen all of these things first hand with traffic coming in and out of our community.  I would be definitely in favor of speed bumps.  God forbid a child did get hit it would be terribly tragic!  I think that there are a few teens that live in this neighborhood in which I am sure are driving crazy.  I remember doing it at that age, but I think it is important for parents to let there kids know of the risks of driving like that.  My husband and I have talked about sitting on our front porch and writing down licence plate numbers of those who run the stop sign in front of our house. then turning them into the police.  My daughter is little and though I do watch her closely you should all know as parents that little one just dart away when you turn your head for a second, they are quick.  I think the speed limit is 15 through our whole neighborhood yet people go like 30 or 35 maybe even faster.  like I said, if this problem doesn't get fixed soon I would definitely be up for speed bumps.  =)

hell, I've even seen the ice cream truck guy fly by as well.  he did it just the other day.  just trowing that out there =)

We emailed him and asked for a quarterly newsletter. We will see what happens.  I am going to keep things positive for now.  Since I am not fully educated on both sides yet, I am not going to get worked up about it.  I just know when we moved in we heard that Hammersma owned a majority of the lots, so until his part is sold off, I believe he is acting legally.  The biggest issue is just being informed on what's going on don't you think?  Every association has rules and regulations.  We just want them to be clear and know why some of them are in place.  There are people of all ages in this community and it needs to be fair for everyone. I think it's good to express opinions and concerns and I think keeping positive and respectful for now is the way to go.  I think overall it's a great neighborhood and as long as we work together to keep the streets safer and be more mindful of other people, things will be great.  I love that there are so many kids around here and I want to know that mine are safe playing outside, as we all do.
