Good idea but...

If you really think that a change should be made which would preclude people such as the woman who inured her baby from being freed ?“on bail?” then your efforts are misplaced. None of the institutions you mention i.e. The Muscatine Journal, Muscatine Police Department, Muscatine County Attorney Office, Muscatine Family Services, Muscatine City Council, DHS, our State Representative, or Governor Culver has any say in the matter.

The matter of ?“bail?” is guaranteed under the 8th Amendment of the US Constitution, and none of the above referenced entities has the authority or power to change or alter that document. It also appears in the Constitution of Iowa.

You could perhaps try to persuade one of our Senators or Congressmen to introduce such a notion, but since it has to be approved by all of the 50 States, I?’m pretty sure that idea as the say ?“won?’t float.?”

I agree that it can at times be a problem, but not one that easily remedied.

I think that you are analyzing this way more than what is meant, or than you need to be. I'm sure MOST parents would love to have this changed, and obviously that would take alot more steps than posting on here! I was just making my opinion known, which I thought that's what this site was for. But as you have, correct me if I'm wrong.

I apprecaite your making your opinion known. I was merley making my opinion known, which I thought was the object of the exercise I am a parent, and while I philosophcaly disagree that the concept of releasing people who committ crimes we feel are horrible ''on bail'' when appropriate is wrong, I do appreciate the reasons why others might disagree.
I believ in our system of justice in the US, and while certianly not perfect, I know of no other that's better of more balanced.
Your opinion is as valid as mine, I just approach the issue from a different perspective.
