might surprise you Ned...

but not all liberals are for such drastic measures in gun control. Do I think an off-duty cop or deputy needs their weapon when they are off-duty? No...no more than I think the average citizen ought to walk down the street armed. An off duty cop or deputy, armed, might just save your life someday, or diffuse a potentially deadly situation.

The bigger issue here is how do you determine which of your officers/deputies are going to lose it someday when off-duty and kill a bunch of people? I don't think you can.

There will be lots of second-guessing and finger pointing with this situation in Wisconsin. More locally, it might make us look at just who is supposedly protecting us, and whether they are qualified, and can be trusted not to go bonkers off-duty.

Carry on,
Lil

Gun Free Zone

This area should have been declaired a ''Gun Free Zone'' and signs posted. Then this tragedy would not have happined!

I guess my question...

is this:

An off-duty officer who probably should not have had a weapon DID have one.

An off-duty officer who doesn't have a weapon probably should have.

What's the right thing here?
Lilesmam to answer your question

As a Retires Police Officer, Most departments encourage you to carry off duty when pratical. Too many nuts out there that carry an assult rifle into a mall to kill as many inocent civelians as possible. Hope this helps.
