How much does Terry pay to VF?
It is interesting that you want to slam a Pickerington city councilman or two for getting a break on their property taxes. Yet say nothing about Terry Dunlap living on 17.82 acres out near Allen Road and Basil Western and only paying $56 a YEAR. At the very least that land is worth $250,000 and he says he farms it. So when we talk about inequalities maybe we should look at everyone.

look again
You might want to check the auditor's website again. Terry pays taxes on several parcels of land, and it looks like there is a family partnership that also owns and pays taxes on several parcels. So, yes, the property would qualify as agricultural. And--just to save everybody some effort, I am not a trustee, the mayor or a council member, or even a relative of any of the above!

Terry says the TWP loses money
The point here is that Mr. Dunlap is complaining in the paper about losing tax dollars in annexations to Pickerington. If this land is under CAUV ''Current Agriculture Use Value'' what is the township losing when a farm under the CAUV program in annexed into Pickerington. If this 17 acres was annexed then the Township or someone would lose a whole $56 dollars per year.
The second point is; is this land really being used for agriculture? In the last few years the Licking county auditor has reassessed these programs to make sure that they are being used for actually farm land that is being farmed. Maybe Barb Curtiss needs to do the same here in Fairfield county.
The parcel in question is not in the Dunlap family name. It is in the Trustee Terry Dunlap's name.
So how can Mr. Dunlap complain about the township losing money on taxes when he pays so little? In fact other big land owners pay very little in property taxes on their farm land. Now I know the theory is that they don't require as much in community services as the other residents. I have lived here for over 20 years with no kids in the schools and never used the police or fire services. I pay more in one year in taxes than Terry Dunlap has paid in the last 20 years. Something is unfair about this. In fact, I pay more in 6 months than Terry has paid in 20 years.
The point is why do we over look a farmer who is about to cash in on the big time at everyone else's expense and then complain when a city council person wants to reduce property taxes for the retired? The very same arguments that were used to get the CAUV laws passed in the 70s seems very similar to reducing property taxes for seniors who don't use the community services nearly as much as other residents.
By Real taxpayer.

Taxes
According to what I see on the auditor's website, Terry pays over $4000 a year in property taxes on the parcels in his name. Must be a nice place you have if your property taxes are over $8000 a year.
